Jamie Lavin is primarily
a self-taught artist, although early training was with his father,
Jim, and several workshops and summer art schools during the
formative years. At Rockhurst High School, Father Jim White was
instrumental in guiding Jamie in throwing clay, and helping him
land a summer scholarship at the Kansas City Art Institute in
1975, under Ken Ferguson. Being employed in his parents' art
gallery gave a pro-active understanding about the art business
through the artists represented.
Jim and Brenda Miles,
the original owners of Central Park Gallery, in Kansas City,
gave Jamie his first venue to sell his contemporary paintings,
and were a great help in encouraging the development of the style
he paints in today. "Since the first day my Dad put a brush
in my hand, I've wanted to paint as a vocation; in 1996, I could
hold back the desire no longer..." Jamie sold exclusively
through Central Park until '96, then branched out to other cities
and galleries. The show circuit became the primary venue in 2001,
and Jamie consistently adds new markets as time allows. Jamie
is at home with his extremely supportive and loving wife, Janet,
and their two daughters, Erin and Shannon.

Special Thanks to:
Lou and Joan, Jim and Lee Ann,
and the rest of my family for always traveling with me and being
so very supportive; To Pete McCoy, who is the consummate Gallery
owner; flawlessly supportive and a great friend; To the Amdur
family and their staff- better show representation cannot possibly
exist! To my friends on the road and at the shows, with whom
make the travel bearable and where our kind of comedy is the
reality half the time! To my Mom, who always believed and to
my wife Janet, who reminds me every day how lucky I am to share
her life. To Jose and Betty, who always know best and with whom
the long hours of painting are shared, not suffered, except together.
To Dick and Joan, your encouragement has meant everything. Lastly,
thinking of my recently departed brother, Brian, I promised that
since you lost your life so early, that I would not make a waste
of mine; and so I paint; with passion, with glorious abandon,
and with The Lord by my side.
